Weather Window

Well, the weather window seems to be today or tomorrow.  So the decision will be either to go to Nassau or Alan Cay.  Either way, we probably will do an overnight sail.  The time here in Bimini has been quite pleasant meeting new people and enjoying the beach.  I went to get fresh bread at a house on the beach road.  She bakes it in her kitchen 10 loaves at a time.  When I was there she was watching the Today Show.  I asked her and her husband what American shows they like to watch.  He watches news on PBS, Discover and National Geographic.  She watches game shows.
The island still shows some British influence.  The children wear uniforms to school and there is a large Anglican church.  We met the pastor of the little Methodist church.  He is here for four months from North Dakota.  Then when he goes home, the people are on their own.
The boats at the marina :  There are a number from Canada.  One from Newfoundland, one from Nova Scotia, one from Montreal, and one from Ottawa.  The two boats next to us are traveling together and they are from the northeast.  One couple lives aboard and the other lives in New Hampshire.  Two couples are from Minnesota and Wisconsin.  They truck their motor boats to Florida and cross over.  They will stay in Bimini for a month and then go back home.  A boat arrived from Key West yesterday with 10 young people aboard.  They are on a racing Benateau.  They plan to go back to Key West this weekend.  A huge 85 foot cat arrived a few days ago and left this morning.  Its owner likes to bone fish in the Bahamas.  He and 9 buddies are meeting the boat in Nassau for a fishing trip.  All sorts of people of all ages.  I think Larry and I are among the oldest--but not in spirit.  The boat from Montreal has a 12 year old aboard and I helped her a bit with her geometry lesson.  It was in French, but between us, we got the meaning.  The New Hampshire boat has a 26 year old who has been coaching LaCrosse at James Madison University and is taking a break to decide what to do with her life.  Some people are retired.  Some are taking extended leaves.  All have a great outlook and are fun to be around. Well, best to get the boat ready.  Happy sails to all.
