The First 1/4 Mile
Our creek (Little Pasture) is quite scenic and we enjoy the quiet view of woods and water most days. But when beginning a trip, there is an anxious moment at the entrance. Will the water be high enough to allow Symmetry to leave? The wind must be just right--north or northeast and have been that way for several days. When this occurs, the water rushes in; the creek becomes more of a torrent and we smile. Yes, the time is right to travel the first quarter mile. And so, last week Larry and I set out in Symmetry, who was approximately one thousand pounds heavier, to brave the first obstacle. After a few missteps and bumps, the boat surged ahead and moved gracefully out on the Bay River! Tango remained at home to oversee the estate as Larry bravely steered the boat to the adjacent creek, a deeper creek. Then we walked home and toasted the first success. The final push began to finish up electronic work and stuff potato chips and the like into all the little cubby holes not yet full. So now it is the day before final departure and the determination is that all is ready. The time has come for locking up the house and putting the cars on ground a little higher than normal. The time has come for "Travels With Tango". Departure day is Sunday, October 25. Return day is hopefully sometime in April.
